The Scottish Mental Health and Wellbeing Football League was welcomed to Holyrood last week to make the draw for the Nil by Mouth Cup. The anti-sectarian charity recently agreed to sponsor this flagship competition.
League Chairperson David McPhee took on the role of Presiding Officer as BBC Scotland ‘View from the Terrace’ star Duncan McKay and South of Scotland MSP Carol Mochan made the draw which will see 12 teams compete for the Trophy. Duncan’s ‘Putting in a Shift’ feature of the show sees him take on a new role within football each week including being a match commentator at Airdrie, a tour guide around the Scottish Football Museum and even a ballboy at Hampden Park.
Carol and Duncan were also keen to find out more about the League’s work and its positive impact on players wellbeing. Carol is currently her party’s spokesperson on Sport and Mental Health and was strongly supportive of its aims and objectives.
The Groups Drawn were as follows:
Group A – Edinburgh Street Soccer, Man On Inverclyde, Dundee United Tangerines and Dundee United Blacks
Group B – United Glasgow, Partick Thistle Reds, Saints Blues and NL Kickstart United Blacks
Group C – Greenock Morton, EE Bears, Saints Yellows, NL Kickstart United Reds
Group D – Partick Thistle Yellows, Clyde United, Real Richmond, Pollok United
In the semi-finals it was drawn as the winners of Group A v winners of Group D and the winners of Group c v winners of Group B.
The cup will be competed for on Tuesday 29th November from 11am at Ravenscraig Sports Centre.
David McPhee said:
‘We are really grateful to Duncan and Carol for taking time out of their day to carry out the draw. It was very kind of Carol to arrange for it to be made in the Fleming Room of the Scottish Parliament and let us highlight the positive impact the league has made in recent years. We are excited to have been able to include new teams in this year’s competition and know that every player will be wanting to get their hands on the trophy which we’d like to thank our sponsors Nil by Mouth for’
